Facilities at Chysauster Ancient Village

  • Parking

    There are approximately 15 unmarked spaces in the free site car park, which is located 1/4 mile downhill from the shop entrance and roughly 1/2 mile from the main site. Visitors will need cross a "C" road on foot after parking.
  • Food And Drink

    Bottled drinks and snacks are available to purchase from the shop.
  • Picnic Area

    You are welcome to bring a picnic to eat in the grounds. There is a picnic bench on the site and also large grassed areas on which to lay out your picnic blanket.

  • Shop

    There is a small shop selling a selection of English Heritage gifts and themed souvenirs, as well as a range of bottled drinks and snacks. The shop is located half way between the car park and the site.
  • Toilets

    Male and female toilets, including baby changing facilities, can be found in the car park. Visitors should be aware that there is only cold running water available, and that there are no facilities once on the main site.
  • Dogs

    Dogs on leads are very welcome.

  • Gardens

    Chysauster Ancient Village consists of large grounds, including a wild meadow, identified paths, and seating and rest areas with beautiful views. Varied flora and fauna throughout the season. There are some slopes across the site.

    Baby Changing Facilities

    Male and female toilets, including baby changing facilities, can be found in the car park. Visitors should be aware that there is only cold running water available, and that there are no facilities on the main site itself.

    Play Areas / Adventure Playground

    Although there is no adventure playground, there is plenty of room to run and play in our large open areas. Kites are welcome, however ball games are not.

    Due to the delicate nature of our sites, English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
