Join our medieval falconers from Raphael Historic Falconry on Palace Green for tales of royal falconry during the reigns of Plantagenet Kings Henry II to Edward I.
Discover how King Henry II, who rebuilt Dover Castle, was also an avid hunter with hawks, hounds, and falcons, transporting them across the Channel to his hunting grounds in France. Like all Medieval kings, falconry was a favourite royal sport and a vital part of medieval life.
Watch magnificent hawks and falcons soar across the skies of Dover Castle and witness a cast of majestic hunting birds take to the skies in natural flight. Experience the thrill as they chase prey in a series of hunting recreations. Between demonstrations, visitors can explore the medieval hawk mews, see the birds at rest, and chat with our knowledgeable medieval falconers.
