We recognise that your salary is only a part of your whole employment package. Therefore we have developed a broad range of benefits that you could be entitled to when you join us.

Financial
Generous Pension Scheme
Your pension is a valuable part of your remuneration package. We provide you with access to a Group Personal Pension Plan with Legal & General. Your employee contributions are a minimum of 4% of basic salary and English Heritage will match your contributions up to a maximum of 10% of your basic salary. There are two ways in which you can pay into your pension, payments can be made through Salary Exchange and Salary Deduction. From 1st April 2022 all new starters will automatically be enrolled through Salary Exchange providing that you meet the eligibility criteria.
Commuting Loans
We can provide you with help towards the cost of travel to work with interest free Commuting Loans. These are available for train and coach season tickets, car parking or the purchase of a bicycle.

Leave and Work-Life Balance
Annual Leave
You will have from 25 days on appointment plus bank holidays, increasing with length of service. We also offer the option to purchase up to 10 days additional leave.
Enhanced Maternity/Adoption Pay
English Heritage offers you a generous maternity/adoption package that includes up to 20 weeks at full pay and 19 weeks at the rate of statutory maternity/adoption pay (subject to your length of service and National Insurance contributions).
Enhanced Paternity Pay (new parents' leave)
If you are a new parent, you may take up to 10 days’ paid paternity leave where your partner has recently given birth or adopted a child (subject to your length of service).
Parental Leave
Unpaid parental leave of up to four weeks each year is available for parents of young children or children who are disabled (subject to your length of service and any previous parental leave taken with other employers).
Enhanced Shared Parental Pay (leave shared between two parents)
English Heritage offers you up to 18 weeks at full pay and 17 weeks at the rate of statutory shared parental pay (subject to your length of service and National Insurance contributions and your partner’s eligibility)Flexible Working Requests
All English Heritage employees are able to request a formal flexible working arrangement. This is a benefit that is granted subject to management approval and discretion and does depend upon finding a workable solution that also meets the needs of English Heritage.
Options that will be considered include:
- Change in work pattern
- Change in number of hours worked
- Homeworking
- Special leave
We will provide you with special leave arrangements if you are faced with a personal crisis or an emergency involving a dependant. We can also grant special leave for activities such as public duties or service with the Reserve Forces.

Wellbeing
Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
We provide you with access to a free and confidential EAP. Providing you with confidential practical help and counselling on a wide range of issues including marital and family problems, bereavement, health or psychological problems, financial matters, and legal and consumer disputes, such as parking charges or disputes with builders.
Occupational Health (OH) Service
This provides access to health professionals with particular expertise about the relationship between health and work.
Free Eye Tests
We will reimburse you for the cost of eye tests if you are a user of Visual Display Units (computer screens).
Enhanced Sick Pay
We provide generous sick pay provisions.
Mental Health First Aiders
We are committed to supporting good mental health and wellbeing by providing support, resources and information to help people understand and improve their ownmental health and support others, We have a group of staff who are trained Mental Health First Aiders, so they will listen and provide support and advice to employees experiencing stress, mental health issue or emotial distress, or when they just need to talk.
In addition many managers have attended a one day Mental Health Awareness session, enabling them to have confidence and awareness to ensure employees feel supported to menage their wellbeing.

Access to English Heritage Sites
Free entry to all our historic places for you, one other adult and up to six children (under the age of 18 and within the family group). We also provide discounts for the wide range of events our sites run throughout the year.
English Heritage retail discounts
- 25% discount for employees on English Heritage goods and souvenirs, internal/external publications
- 25% discount on English Heritage Gift of Memberships – this means you can treat your friends and families to an English Heritage Membership.
Discount on English Heritage holiday cottages
We have a number of holiday cottages throughout the country. Employees are able to use these facilities at a discounted cost. 10% discount throughout the year.
