Dover Castle

Dover Castle is currently closed but we hope to reopen from 3 December for pre-booked visits. If you have a booking for while we are closed you will be automatically refunded within 10 working days. From Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December we will be keeping a selection of our sites, including the gardens of nearby Walmer Castle, open for local visitors and Members. These sites all have large outdoor spaces, and they can be opened in a way that protects the health of all our visitors, staff and volunteers. We have additional safety measures in place at all of our sites including social distancing, enhanced cleaning and limits on visitor numbers. You will need to book in advance in order to visit, and we ask everyone to please bear in mind the government’s latest advice on essential journeys before you plan your visit. To find out which sites are open, how to book tickets and what to expect when you visit click on the links below. We hope to resume our normal winter opening times from 3 December, and will update you when we have more news.

What you need to know

We've made some changes to help keep you safe, and things might be a little different when you visit. Here's everything you need to know.

  • What parts of the site are closed?
    • Castle Tunnels –  The Secret Wartime Tunnels and Underground Hospital remain closed. The castle's medieval tunnels are open for you to explore.
    • The Bunker – the Bunker escape room remains closed.
    • St Mary in Castro - The Church remains closed.
    • Mobility Assistance Vehicle - Due to the need to maintain social distancing, we are not currently able to offer the mobility assistance vehicle on site.
  • How are you keeping us safe?

We've made a number of changes to help keep you safe. Although things might be a little different when you visit, you’ll still be able to enjoy exploring the places where history really happened. And you’ll still be given a warm and safe welcome by our friendly – if socially distant – staff and volunteers.

To maintain social distancing, we've introduced one way routes through the Great Tower and other indoor areas, and some interactive displays will be unavailable.

You can visit our reopening page for information on general safety measures we've taken to help keep you safe.

  • Do I need to wear a face covering?
