Conservation work

Conserving and maintaining our collections for the benefit of this and future generations is a cornerstone of everything we do. A one-off Government grant of £52m means we can clear the backlog of essential conservation repairs at sites across the country.

Homing at Hadrian's Wall

We will launch a series of new projects at our sites along Hadrian's Wall including Corbridge and Birdoswald.  Many Roman artefacts will be restored to their original places.  At Chesters Roman Fort we will tell the full story of archaeologist John Clayton without whom the wall might never have been saved for the nation.

Tendering
