Pressure Waves:

Role playing the end of the world

DATE

Thursday 12 June 2025

TIME

7pm - 8pm

LOCATION

37 Tanner Row

SUITABLE FOR

Everyone

In 1983, civil servants gathered to role play the descent into world war and nuclear conflict.  Taking the place of senior politicians, their responses scripted imagined reactions and decisions, providing an insight into the psychological impact of this ultimate responsibility.

That exercise, WINTEX-CIMEX, is held in the National Archives.  Pressure Waves will consider the WINTEX-CIMEX document within both the political context of the time and in reflection of our current global situation.

Join us for dramatised extracts from the WINTEX-CIMEX document and an expert discussion panel.

This event is part of York Festival of Ideas and is staged as part of ‘Forewarned is Forearmed’ marking the centenary of the Royal Observer Corps.
