A medieval escape

In the heart of the pretty village of Warkworth, this 13th century castle was once home to a bustling community. Follow the trails around Warkworth Castle to learn about its past residents. Explore the different rooms and enjoy beautiful views over the River Coquet.

A rural fortress

Standing on a remote headland, Dunstanburgh Castle can only be reached via the coastal path. Along with awesome views and distinctive ruins, the castle offers a unique insight into the fierce fighting during the Wars of the Roses.

Go on a pilgrimage

Cross the dramatic causeway to Holy Island and make your way to Lindisfarne Priory. With its 12th century rainbow archway and newly revamped museum there’s lots to see. From Viking raids to St Cuthbert, discover its epic stories. Always check the tide times and our opening times before crossing.

Where to stay

Spend a little bit longer on Holy Island and stay at the Coastguard’s Cottage. The cottage sleeps 6 and has a private garden terrace overlooking Lindisfarne Castle. On the island, spot seals in spring and summer and their pups in the autumn. Look out for the Northern Lights during the winter months.
