A special display in the Tintagel Castle High Street Ticket Office & Shop will gather local opinions on the proposed designs for a new bridge at Tintagel Castle, over four days from 6 - 7 November and 11 - 12 December 2016.

Public Consultation

In March this year, Ney and Partners with William Matthews Associates were selected as the winning design team for the footbridge, following a fierce international competition among 137 architects and engineers. The designers were selected by an expert panel in consultation with local stakeholders and members of the public.

The final proposal for the footbridge will be subject to a number of consents and regulatory approvals, including planning permission and Scheduled Monument Consent. Before that process begins, we are seeking your views on the project.

Meet the experts

As well as a consultation to gather public opinion on the designs, the display is an opportunity to come and meet some of the experts involved in the project. Visitors can learn more about the proposed landscape improvements that will help to preserve the important archaeology and ecology of the site, and hear about new geological investigations which have taken place at Tintagel Castle.

Project Manager Reuben Briggs said:

"There was a great deal of interest in the proposal to build a new bridge at Tintagel Castle when we announced the winner of our design competition in the spring, and over the seven months since then we have been conducting tests and investigations to ensure the proposed design would work and to minimise any potential impact on Tintagel's archaeology and ecology.

"Now we're inviting everyone interested in this project to come and view the proposals, hear about the results of our investigations and have their say on our plans. We hope anyone with an interest in this project will join us to find out more and to share their thoughts with us."

The consultation display will take place in the Tintagel Castle Ticket Office & Shop in the village of Tintagel from 10am - 4pm on 6 - 7 November and 11 - 12 December 2016. If you are unable to attend, you can view the information boards online.
