Our Volunteers

Every day, hundreds of people up and down the country share their time to help preserve the historic places in our care. We couldn't do what we do without them.

Volunteering is a great way to support English Heritage. From helping to plant bulbs in our gardens to running craft workshops and answering questions from curious visitors, there are lots of roles available.

Our trustees and directors

As a charity, we’re governed by our board of trustees, who are also volunteers. Gerard Lemos CMG CBE is chair of the board.

The trustees delegate the day-to-day running of the charity to the senior management team, which is led by our chief executive, Dr Nick Merriman OBE.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Our vision is that, by 2040, English Heritage will have helped millions of people to come closer together through their shared enjoyment and love for England’s heritage. We can only do that by becoming a truly equitable, diverse and inclusive organisation. Our refreshed EDI Strategy, ‘Inclusion in Action’ sets out what we aim to do and how we plan to get there.
