Experience an exhilarating spectacle as four legendary knights compete for glory in the grand medieval joust. See lances shatter, feel the thunder of hooves, and hear the roar of the crowd as reputations are won and lost.

Each knight represents a character from myth or legend – The Wyvern, The Wildman, Sir Lancelot and Jason of the Argonauts. Who will be your champion?

Be entertained by Pendennis’s Jester and enjoy traditional music as you explore family activities. Plus, join expert falconers for displays from beautiful birds of prey.

Timetable of events

    • 10am: The event field opens at Eltham Palace and enjoy music from Sounds of Time.
    • 10.30am: Arms, armour and combat of the 15th century – hear about the armour, weapons and tactics used on the battlefields of medieval.
    • 11am: A school for fools! – join us as Tom Fool schools your children in the art of the court jester.
    • 11.30am: Arming the Knight – watch as our Knights get ready and prepare to do battle!
    • 12pm: Medieval falconry – watch the sport of Kings recreated in live displays of medieval falconry, visit the hawks and falcons at the Mews.
    • 12.45pm: The Legendary Joust – cheer on your champion in the first joust of the day followed by the opportunity to meet the knights and get your flags signed (located by the Retail Tent).
    • 1.30pm: Napple on the numbskull – our fool attempts to catch a flying apple! Stilts, heights, catapults and fire! What could possibly go wrong?
    • 2pm: Medieval archery – discover how soldiers used the fearsome medieval longbow and the miracle of Agincourt.
    • 2pm: Meet the instruments – a chance to listen to and learn about the weird and wonderful musical instruments of the Middle Ages with Sounds of Time.
    • 2.30pm: Medieval falconry – watch a thrilling recreation of the noble art of falconry and marvel at a cast of avian legends of the chase, as they dash across the castle skies in pursuit of their prey!
    • 3pm Tom Sharp (half)wit! show – Tom Fool shall bid to become the ultimate champion of our tournament without any practice!
    • 3.45pm: The Legendary Joust – cheer on your champion in the final joust of the day!
    • 4.30pm: Medieval music – finish your day with the sweet serenade of music from Sounds of Time.
    • 4.30pm: Last chance to meet the characters (the site closes at 5pm)

    Please note: 

    • There will be working animals on site, please ensure dogs are kept on a short lead and kept under close control at all times.
    • When visiting displays, please do not touch anything unless invited to do so by performers.
    • Please do not cross any tape barriers unless invited to do so by the performers.
    • There will be theatrical recreations of combat and drills from the period.
