You can hire a Tramper when visiting Belsay Hall. This electric all-terrain mobility scooter can travel over rough ground, making more areas of the castle grounds accessible to more people. Click here to find out more and book a Tramper and download the access map here.

Dog Bowl and Toileting
There is a dog bowl at the entrance to the site and at the castle. There are three dog bins on the site: in the car park; castle and on the quarry garden path.
Wheelchair Access
Castle and manor house reached by 700m path through gardens; access to the ground floor of the castle and the manor house via a ramp. Trampers are available to hire on site. RADAR key access for level access route to the hall (via tearoom entrance) and gardens (via toilet gate). Key available at the shop for a refunded hire charge. Shop has level access but narrow doorway.
Entrance / Set Down
Visitors can be set down outside the entrance to Belsay Hall.
Disabled Parking
There are fourteen designated blue badge parking bays in the main car park. We also try to create more spaces on busy event days.
Stairs
Steep, spiral staircase to the upper levels of the castle and stairs to reach the first floor of the hall.

Seats are located across the grounds of Belsay and inside the hall.
Pathways Surface And Gradients
A step-free route around Belsay Hall is indicated on the information panel map at the welcome point. Paths are gravelled through the grounds. No steep gradients. A very gentle slope on the west quarry path. A gradient map is available in the shop for access routes for wheelchair users. Loose gravel surface in car park.

Sensory Experiences
Seasonal fragrances from tulips, azara microphylla to verbena, with rhododendrons creating a rolling landscape and a dazzling scent in May-June. Blackbirds, robins and blue tits can be heard around the site along with the occasional woodpecker.

You can pick up a hand-held device for the audio-described tour at the admissions desk. Headsets are provided but you can use your own.

Deep Water
Small pond in the Quarry Garden and lake in Crag Wood, please keep children and dogs away from the edge.
Sheer Drop
Sheer drops in formal garden areas and at the castle. Please keep an eye on children and dogs.
Slip Hazard
Paths can be muddy (or icy paths in cold weather). Please wear appropriate footwear and take care when walking through the grounds.
Steep Stairs
There are steep stairs to the upper areas of the castle.

Uneven floors in the hall and at the castle. Please take care when walking around Belsay.
