The site is situated on the Landguard peninsula, sitting between the Port of Felixstowe and a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) Nature Reserve which has a rare vegetated shingle ecosystem. It is bordered by the North Sea and the Orwell estuary. Fantastic views of the estuary, ships, port operations and the sea are available from the fort and surrounding area. There are paths though the Nature Reserve including an easily accessible boardwalk. Wildlife can be spotted on the Nature Reserve.
A cycle route runs from the town of Felixstowe through the Nature Reserve to the fort.
There is a free audio-visual app to guide you around the fort using a smartphone or tablet, downloadable via a QR code during your visit or click here to download it in advance. The app stays on your device until you uninstall it so you can rewatch after your visit.
A free standard audio tour is also available.
Educational group visits are welcome at the fort - visit Landguard Fort Trust's website for more details.
Pathways and surfaces within the fort include gravel, grass, concrete and asphalt which may be slippery when wet.
