The remains, mainly the 13th-century refectory and kitchen, of a small monastery for just six Gilbertine canons - the only wholly English monastic order.

Before You Go

Parking: Please park in Mattersey village as there is no vehicle access to the priory.

Access: There is no vehicle access to the site so please park in the village and then walk or cycle a mile down Abbey Road (bridleway). Access from the top of Abbey Road to the priory is through a privately-owned field and by permission of the landowner. Entry into the field is via a stile and there may be animals grazing in it.

Facilities: There are no facilites at the priory.

Dogs: No dogs allowed.

Just 10 miles to the east of Mattersey Priory is Gainsborough Old Hall, one of the best-preserved medieval manor houses in England. Gainsborough Old Hall has a café selling delicious hot and cold food and refreshments, toilet facilities and a gift shop.
