Artist Spotlight:

Marigold Short graduated in 2023 from the University of Northampton with an MA in Fine Art

Working across a range of media, Short’s work uses fabrics, paint, print, video and sound to capture experiences and emotions that are just out of reach and evoke the elusive and spiritual dimension of the world.

Come and Visit:

In this new exhibition, Short imagines the building as a metaphor. The middle floor represents life on earth – with the option to ascend to Heaven or descend into Hell.

‘To ascend is to go Heavenward and find eternal rest. For Catholics like Thomas Tresham who built Rushton, the worship of mass transcends space and time.

Descending to the basement we also go down a generation to the time of Tresham’s son, Francis, and his involvement in the Gunpowder Plot – a desperate attempt to return the English throne to Roman Catholicism.

The differences between Catholics and Protestants had political and spiritual ramifications. The sovereignty of the nation was in question; the very soul of the nation was at stake.’

The exhibition will be on display from Friday 26th July until Sunday 22nd September. Don’t forget to pick up a leaflet which contains information about each of the pieces too.
