Members' Lecture: Isabella de Fortibus and Carisbrooke Castle
Countess Isabella de Fortibus was one of the greatest heiresses in 13th-century England. Born in 1237, she married William De Fortibus, Earl of Aumale when she was only 11 or 12 and was widowed at the age of 23 (having also borne six children).
In this lecture (originally aired live on 7 March at 6pm), Samantha Stones, properties curator, discusses Isabella’s incredible life and the legacy she left at Carisbrooke Castle.
