This block of ashlar (square-cut stone) features a crude relief carving of the Agnes Dei (Lamb of God). The style of the lamb is unusual, with the closest parallels suggesting a Romanesque date. The Agnus Dei is associated with Christian liturgies including Mass, which suggests that the panel may have formed part of the medieval church interior.

This Romanesque freestanding capital (the top of a pillar) is decorated with stylised trefoil foliage. Originally forming part of the cloister arcading, it is one of several capitals found in 1858 during the restoration of the church. It had been reused in the later medieval period in the heightening of the chancel, and provides evidence that the first cloister arcading was renewed at that time.

This elaborate freestanding brass and oak lectern is part of a matching set of liturgical objects that formed part of the initial furnishing of the restored church. It is embellished with repoussé brass mouldings (relief mouldings formed by hammering on the reverse) and agate cabochons (uncut stones). The lectern was initially the only location for reading to the congregation until a pulpit was added in 1875.

Belonging (with the lectern) to a matching liturgical set, this brass high altar cross with agate cabochons was part of the initial furnishing of the restored church interior. The form of the cross is in the Irish Celtic tradition (with a ring, or nimbus, around the intersection). This may indicate the personal tastes of the restorers, Cadogan and Isabel Hodgson Cadogan.

These two pine and oak prayer desks are gothic in style and decorated with pierced quatrefoil panels. Primarily made of pine, they were probably made on the estate specifically for Brinkburn.

Originally one of a pair, this painted canvas ecclesiastical gonfalon – a flag or banner – depicts St Peter holding a bible and the keys to heaven. The matching gonfalon was lost in the early 20th century, but early photographs show that it depicted St Paul. When hung together in the crossing of the church, the two banners celebrated the saints to whom the priory church is dedicated.

This oak prayer desk originally stood centrally on the east side of the crossing looking directly towards the high altar. The desk is gothic in style with trefoil-head openings surmounted by further pierced trefoils. Originally the desk had a separate low standing kneeler with embroidered cover.

This highly decorative silk, lace and metal thread ecclesiastical banner bears the Latin monogram HIS, symbolising Christ. The delicately embroidered outer border comprises irises, daffodils, carnations and floral scrolls, finished with an intricate metal lace. This is an extremely rare piece, as banners of this delicacy rarely survive.

Every side of this oak bible stand is adorned with brass panels with enamelled designs in the Irish Celtic tradition. The stand was made for the restored church interior, probably in the late 1860s, as a memorial dedication to Anna Kenyon (d.1862). It was probably commissioned by the Reverend John Kenyon, who was Brinkburn’s second curate (1866–8).

This oak offertory box with decorative iron strapwork was used for congregation and visitor donations. Many people donated towards the restoration of the interior of the priory church. Notable donations include the William Hill pipe organ from Sir Wiliam Armstrong, of nearby Cragside House, and the pulpit from Mrs Fairweather, who had previously lived nearby.

This relief sculpture depicts a lady in late 16th-century costume. It was collected by Cadogan Hodgson Cadogan from an ‘old cottage on the moor edge’, where it was used by the resident Mary Gray as an idol to pray to. Cadogan displayed the sculpture outside the west front of the priory church, together with other objects from his collection.

This embroidered kneeler depicting the keys of St Peter and sword of St Paul – the saints to whom the church is dedicated – was made for Brinkburn in 1936. It is one of 12 of the same design. The maker’s initials, JFF, in the lower left corner belong to Jane Frances Fenwick, who lived at Brinkburn Priory Manor House after her marriage to Lancelot Fenwick in 1908.

This late 18th-century English School oil on oak panel painting depicts Brinkburn Priory seen from the north-west. It shows the ruined priory church before its restoration in the mid 19th century and includes a partial view of the post-medieval manor house, which was completely redeveloped in the early 19th century.
