Before You Go

Standing on a rocky promontory guarding the lovely anchorage between Bryher and Tresco, this round tower was built after the conquest of the Royalist Scillies in 1651 and is one of the few surviving Cromwellian fortifications in Britain.

Before You Go

Access: The castle is only accessible on foot. It is situated right on the shoreline just north of New Grimsby harbour.

Opening times: Open daily all year round during day light hours.

Facilities: Refreshments are available from a well-stocked shop just south of New Grimsby harbour.

Dogs: Dogs on leads are welcome.

Please Be Aware: The footpath winds through a hillside of heather, so sturdy footwear is advisable. There are steep stone steps within the castle's towers.

Plan a Great Day Out

Walk up the hill to King Charles' Castle, perched on the hillside above. Both castles, along with the Old Blockhouse on the east side of the Island, can be included on the six mile circular coastal walk around Tresco.
