Group visits to Dunstanburgh Castle
Built on the most magnificent scale, Dunstanburgh Castle stands on a remote headland in Northumberland. The castle was built at a time when relations between King Edward II and his most powerful baron, Earl Thomas of Lancaster, had become openly hostile. Lancaster began the fortress in 1313, and the latest archaeological research indicates that he built it on a far grander scale than was originally recognised, perhaps more as a symbol of his opposition to the king than as a military stronghold.
Group Discount
We offer a 15% discount (10% for Stonehenge) for travel trade and organised groups of 11 or more paying visitors when payment is made in a single transaction.

The tour leader, coach driver and any English Heritage members do not count towards the group totals.

Opening times:
Please be aware of the site's opening times when making your enquiry. Some of our smaller sites close during the winter, so you may expect a longer than expected response time.

Please include the property name and date of visit in the subject line of your email along with the following information:
- Group name
- Name of property
- Tour reference/booking reference (if applicable)
- Date and time of arrival
- Number of visitors
Payment method:
Payment can be made on arrival by: cash, credit/debit card, cheque (made payable to The English Heritage Trust), Agency Voucher Scheme (AVS).
Visit & Contact information
- Prices and opening times: Please check here. The 'without donation' price applies to groups and travel trade.
- Coach parking: There is no coach parking on this site. Nearest coach parking is Craster and Embleton villages. There are spaces for two coaches and two minibuses. No advance booking required. Not managed by English Heritage.
- Catering: Hot and cold drinks, and range of snacks and confectionery available.
- Gardens: Grounds within the castle extend to 0.9 hectares. There are paths around the perimeter which give excellent opportunities to see at close range large varieties of birds, flowers and mammals. Of particular interest are nesting seabirds and birds of prey.
- Access: Access ramp to shop.
- Average length of visit: 1 hour.
