Limited access to site (companion recommended). 750-metre walk up a steep gradient. Accessible parking is available at the top of the hill. Please enquire at the information centre in the bottom car park to arrange accessible parking. The museum and shop are step free.

Accessible parking is available next to museum accessed via a farm track. Unfortunately, booking isn't available and parking will be assigned on a first come first served. Ask directions at the National Trust Visitor Centre upon arrival. Four spaces are available.

Pathways Surface And Gradients
The main pathway from the car park is gravel and has a rough surface. The path is grass to the fort and the fort is very steep in places.

There are a number of sensory experiences at Housesteads Roman Fort. There are different smells, sounds, textures and visuals from the natural and rural surroundings. The site is a large open space with plenty of room to explore. The shop can sometimes become busy during peak times.
