The magnificent St Mary's Church is one of the finest examples of High Victorian Gothic Revival architecture in England. It was designed in the 1870s by the flamboyant architect William Burges. Set within Studley Royal Park, a World Heritage Site which also includes the ruins of Fountains Abbey, the church has been called Burges's 'ecclesiastical masterpiece'.
The church was built by the Marquess and Marchioness of Ripon following a tragic family death in 1870. Its extravagantly decorated interior is influenced by 13th century English Gothic styles and displays coloured marble, stained glass, a splendid organ, and painted and gilded figures in all their original glory.

Before You Go
Opening Times: The church is open from the end of March until late October, from 1pm - 3:30pm daily. Please check National Trust website for up-to-date information.
Parking: There is a free car park at the Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Visitor Centre, a ten minute walk from the church. The Studley Royal Deer Park car park is closer to the church but is pay and display.
Access: The church can be accessed by wheelchairs but please be aware of uneven terrain and gravelled pathways to reach the door. Visitors who require a wheelchair can be set down at the church, by arrangement. Please contact the National Trust at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal for further details on (01765) 608888.
Facilities: There is a restaurant located at Fountains Abbey Studley Royal visitor centre and a tearoom in the Studley Water Garden. These are not managed by English Heritage. You can find toilet facilities in the Studley Royal car park or at the visitor centre.
Dogs: Dogs on short leads are welcome outside the church, but only guide dogs are permitted inside the church.
Please be aware: The church sits within Studley Royal parkland where herds of deer freely roam.
