    Free car park. There is a gravel car park 250 metres from the main entrance, with both hard standing and spaces on grass. Capacity for approx. 300 vehicles.

    There is a free buggy service that can pick up disabled visitors from the visitor centre (adjacent to car park) and shuttle them to the hall.

  • Food And Drink

    The Garden Tearooms serve high-quality Yorkshire food using the best local, fresh ingredients. We offer a children's selection on the menu. In fine weather, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the hall from the outdoor seating on the Tea Terrace. 

  • Picnic Area

    Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the gardens.

    Shop selling a wide range of heritage-themed gifts, plants in spring and summer, books and gardening items. There is also a second hand book shop with a wide varity of titles localted in the Hall near the tearooms.

    Male and female toilets are located in a separate toilet block 50 metres from the hall. Disabled toilets are located in the adapted toilet block 50 metres from the hall.
  • Dogs

    Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on site due to the gardens being listed. Assistance dogs are welcome.

    Inside this beautiful Victorian country house almost everything has been left exactly as it was when it was still a family home. Possessions that took more than 130 years to gather together, from the grandest piece of furniture to family mementoes and humble domestic items, are still in their original places.

    There is an exhibition detailing the history of the property and the gardens.
  • Gardens

    The extensive, beautiful grounds are home to a collection of grand gardens in miniature. These have been restored to their full Victorian splendour, and feature a colourful array of seasonal plantings and displays.

    The flower garden displays a fine selection of period bedding plants, while romantic views from the restored summerhouse take in both the formal gardens and the pleasure grounds.

    Stroll through the statue walks, the fern dell grotto, the victorian privy, Target Garden and the beautiful wild rose dell.

    There is a designated play area close to our gardens. Please note that due to narrow paths and delicate marble statues throughout the garden we do not allow bikes, trikes and balls on site.

    Yes, but please note that prams, pushchairs and back carriers for babies are not allowed in the fragile interiors of the hall.

  • Please Be Aware

    Traffic on site is limited to a golf buggy for mobilty impaired people between the car park and hall and for access to the disabled parking directly outside the hall. Handrails only on internal stairs.

  • Commercial Photograph And Filming

    No photography allowed in the hall itself. 

    English Heritage welcomes all photographers to our sites and we hope you will share your pictures with us on Flickr and Facebook.

    We do have some restrictions at certain locations, so if photography is your main reason for visiting, please call the site ahead of your visit to check if any parts of the site are restricted.
