The Bowling Green Apartment at Carisbrooke Castle
The Bowling Green Apartment is a two-bedroom holiday cottage that comfortably sleeps up to four people, with fun bunk beds in the twin bedroom. Located in the heart of Carisbrooke Castle sitting high and proud at the heart of the Isle of Wight, Carisbrooke Castle has been an artillery fortress, king's prison and a royal summer residence. Today it’s the quintessential romantic castle, with lots to see and enjoy in the fresh open air. The Bowling Green Apartment is located on the second floor of the 19th Century former service block from resident gentry of the day, it’s now been renovated to offer contemporary comfort for a getaway filled with adventure. The apartment has views across the tower and high castle walls, and with direct access to wander the grounds of King Charles I’s bowling green, the tranquil Princess Beatrice Garden, before meeting the famous Carisbrooke donkeys, you really will be set for adventure. Included in your booking is a luxury hamper, as well as entry to all English Heritage sites and most events, 10% off in our shops and cafés during your stay. Discover Carisbrooke Castle
Accessing Carisbrooke Castle through the medieval gatehouse is just the start of your adventure when staying at the Bowling Green Apartment. Explore the ramparts of the curtain wall, designed to defend the castle from artillery attack from the Spanish Armada, the Motte and Keep built in the 12th Century and Princess Beatrice's privy garden that belonged to Queen Victoria's youngest daughter who was Governor of the Isle of Wight and lived at Carisbrooke Castle. Another noticeable resident was King Charles I who was imprisoned here prior to his execution. The bowling green situated behind the Keep was created as the king had developed a passion for the game.
