Discover Dover Castle

The Sergeant Major's House stands in its own grounds within the castle's historic walls. This elegant and spacious four-storey Georgian building sleeps six, and is set in its own grounds just inside the Western Outer Curtain Wall. As its name suggests, it was once the home of the Regimental Sergeant Majors who were garrisoned in the castle.

Sited beneath imposing Great Tower this well presented house commands stunning views over the sea to France.

Testimonial

It was amazing experience, living within the castle and being able to explore it on our own was fantastic! The location was breath-taking and the staff were all so friendly and helpful.

Our stay in the Sergeant Major's House was exceptionally enjoyable. The location within the castle walls meant that wandering around the site once all the day trippers had left was particularly memorable, with beautiful sunsets from the battlements. A typical day was a visit to part of the castle at the start of the day, after which we left the site to the visitors, returning after everyone had left. The house itself was superbly appointed and very comfortable. Hannah the housekeeper had done a grand job in preparing the place, leaving an unexpectedly large welcome hamper, including items for the dog. We all thought that it would be a great place to live!

The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. The housekeeper was fabulous and very proactive - ringing me before I got around to calling her, checking what bread, milk, etc we'd prefer for our hamper of goodies - which was very welcome. We also found the Dog's Hamper a nice, unexpected touch - my Assistance Dog certainly enjoyed the treats.
