The cast-iron Cantlop bridge, built in 1813, was part of an expanding network of bridges built to improve communication and trade in Shropshire.
It was possibly designed and certainly approved by the great engineer Thomas Telford, who was instrumental in shaping industrial Shropshire and the West Midlands.

Before You Go
Parking: Parking is available in a layby just beyond the new bridge.
Access: The bridge is easily accessible, being located next to the road. From Acton Burnell follow the road north through Pitchford and Cantlop. The bridge is located along this road approximately half a mile from Cantlop.
Dogs: Dogs on leads are welcome.

Plan a Great Day Out
There is a small picnic area next to Cantlop Bridge, so bring a sandwich and enjoy the riverside location.
The romantic red sandstone ruin of Acton Burnell Castle is just over three miles away from the bridge. A couple of miles further south is the quaint Langley Chapel in its tranquil setting.
Also nearby is Wroxeter Roman City. Explore the remains of the vast bathhouse, go inside a reconstructed Roman town house and take the audio tour to discover what life was like in a Roman city.
