Southwick Priory in Hampshire was originally founded for Augustinian canons in about 1128 within the walls of nearby Portchester Castle, but the canons had moved to the present site within 20 years. After its suppression in 1538 Southwick was converted into a mansion, and today one wall of the priory and earthworks survive.

Plan a Great Day Out
Head towards the coast and visit Portchester Castle. Explore the site with an audio tour, climb the tower to take in the commanding views of the Solent and treat yourself to a souvenir in the gift shop.
Continue your exploration of ruined religious houses by visiting nearby Titchfield Abbey, later converted into a grand Tudor mansion. The remains of Netley Abbey and Bishop's Waltham Palace are also in the area.
