On Thursday 26 May 2022, we marked the 125th anniversary of Bram Stoker's iconic novel, Dracula, by breaking the record for the Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Vampires with 1,369 vampires!
We were delighted that so many people embraced the idea and came together at Whitby Abbey, a major inspiration for Dracula, to celebrate the anniversary.

Learn moreThe project kicked off by replacing the storm-ravaged roof from 2018 and 2021. We upgraded to ultra-sustainable steel from France, made entirely from recycled materials and 100% recyclable after a century.
We installed 28 cutting-edge PV solar panels, reducing our power bills by half and paying for themselves within five years. To prepare for a 30% increase in rainfall, we fitted larger downpipes.
To protect against intensifying storms, we added lightning protection for our valuable collection. We also carried out crucial conservation work using the rare scaffold.
In just six months and at a cost of £550k, we've future-proofed our building with sustainable innovation and eco-friendly upgrades.
