Facilities at Conisbrough Castle

  • Parking

    We recommend that you use Calvert Way for parking which is opposite the private car park at the bottom of Castle Hill. Alternatively use the street parking in the village and help sustain our community by also using the local amenities. There are also a few accessible spaces outside the visitor centre

  • Picnic Area

    You are welcome to bring a picnic to eat in the grounds. Visitors can spread a rug out on the grass and enjoy views of the castle (no BBQs or alcohol please).
  • Shop

    The gift shop sells a wide range of English Heritage souvenirs and gifts, including books, sweets, toys and costumes. The gift shop is located in the visitor centre, which is fully accessible.
  • Toilets

    Separate male and female toilets available.
  • Dogs

    Dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds only. Assistance dogs welcome across the site.

  • Exhibition

    There are a number of interesting staged displays hidden on each floor within the keep, and a 3D model of the castle located inside the visitor centre.

  • Gardens

    There are plenty of grassed areas for games and picnics. Children are welcome to run around and explore. Ball games and kites are permitted.

    There is room to play (but not a playground) outside the visitor centre. Ball games and kites are permitted.

    English Heritage Discovery Visits are available all year. Please call in advance to enquire and make a booking.

    A range of family activities are available, including a book box, activity sheets, reconstruction drawings and object handling.

    English Heritage welcomes amateur photographers to our sites and we hope you will share your pictures of your visit with us on social media.

    If you are looking to use one of our sites for commercial, corporate or professional photography or as a filming location, please contact our filming team as soon as possible to check availability and acquire the relevant permissions and paperwork.

    Due to the delicate nature of our sites, English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
