Here are some frequently asked questions for Belsay Hall's Playshapes event.

  • What is Playshapes?

    Playshapes is an interactive play activity where visitors can use their imaginations to create new structures, sculptures, or playscapes, and then climb and have fun on their own creations! An amazing interactive mix of cubes steps, triangles, prisms, and cylinders, Playshapes has been developed by artist Pippa Hales.

  • Who is Playshapes for?

    Playshapes is for everybody. Children of all ages can play, and parents and guardians are encouraged to join in too.

  • How much does it cost?

    Playshapes costs £3.50 for English Heritage members and £4 for non-members per child, in addition to the admission fee for Belsay Hall.

  • How do we book?

    Please book your time slot on admission to Belsay Hall, and arrive at the Hall ten minutes before your timeslot.

  • Can we take photos?

    We’d love for you to take photos of your experience, and you can share them with us on Belsay Hall’s Facebook and English Heritage’s Instagram. Please be mindful of others using the space and only share photos of those within your party.

  • What facilities are available at Belsay Hall?

    There’s a cosy tea room near the Hall, and our Coach House café next to the play area by the castle. Toilet facilities, including baby changing and a Changing Places facility, are available near the entrance, with additional toilets in the Coach House café.
