Facilities at Goodrich Castle

  • Parking

    Parking charges apply to non-members. Parking free for members. Visitors will find a large car park located close to the visitor centre (400 metres from the castle), which is accessed by some steps. To avoid slopes and steps, please park close to the refreshment area. The path to the castle can be muddy in places.

  • Food And Drink

    Goodrich's delightful tearoom offers light refreshments such as the classic soup and bread roll, sandwiches and pasties as well as cream teas and cakes for those with a sweet tooth. There’s a selection of Fairtrade hot drinks for you to enjoy. A kid's lunch, which includes a sandwich, drink, biscuit and fruit, is available in the tearoom.

  • Picnic Area

    Visitors are welcome to enjoy a picnic within the castle grounds and dry moat (please ensure you take your litter with you). Please note that the seating outside the tearoom is reserved for those that purchase from the tearoom.
  • Shop

    The gift shop is located within the visitor centre which is easily accessible to all. This sells a wide range of English Heritage souvenirs and gifts, including children's toys, weapons, drinks and jams, as well as castle, medieval and countryside themed products.

    Male/female and disabled toilets, including baby changing facilities, are available on site.
  • Dogs

    Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the site, including indoor spaces.

  • Exhibition

    The visitor centre features an interesting display of information charting the history of the castle, and some Civil War artefacts from its siege in 1646. A "Roaring Meg" cannon is  located in the courtyard.
  • Gardens

    There are grassed areas in and around the castle.

    Wildlife on the site include bats and pheasants. In the summer, visitors can enjoy sightings of housemartins, jackdaws, garden birds and more.

    The woodlands and the fields around the castle are private and these are not accessible to visitors.

  • Audio Tours

    English language audio tours are available, and are included in the price of entry ticket. The free audio tour includes the story of the famous Civil War siege as well as other interesting information about the castle. No booking necessary.

    English Heritage welcomes amateur photographers to our sites and we hope you will share your pictures of your visit with us on social media.

    If you are looking to use one of our sites for commercial, corporate or professional photography or as a filming location, please contact our filming team as soon as possible to check availability and acquire the relevant permissions and paperwork.

    Due to the delicate nature of our sites, English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
