Facilities at Stokesay Castle

  • Parking

    Parking charges apply to non-members. Parking free for members. Car park is located approx 300 metres from the entrance. Access to the castle is via a hardcore path through the churchyard. A kissing gate may be avoided by opening main gate. Some rough grass in car park.  

  • Food And Drink

    A new tearoom with picturesque views of the Shropshire Hills and surrounding countryside.

    The menu features traditional ingredients and recipes from the area (Shropshire Fidget Pie, Shropshire Blue and more), as well as hot and cold sandwiches, light bites, homemade cakes and children's meals.

  • Picnic Area

    You are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the castle courtyard, or on the benches immediately outside the visitor reception.

  • Shop

    Gift shop is located in the visitor centre. We stock a wide range of Medieval and Tudor themed souvenirs, including toy swords and dressing up outfits, a lovely selection of jewellery and English Heritage gifts. We also have a range of tapestries.

  • Toilets

    Separate male and female toilets. Baby changing facilities are located in the disabled toilet.
  • Dogs

    Dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds (dog bowl/toileting available). With the exception of guide and hearing dogs, dogs are not allowed inside the castle. 

  • Gardens

    Inside the courtyard is a beautifully maintained cottage garden, with a planting scheme that changes with the seasons. There is also a moat walk.

    An audio guide is available onsite using your phone or handset.

    English Heritage welcomes all photographers to our sites and we hope you will share your pictures with us on Flickr and Facebook. We do have some restrictions at certain locations, so if photography is your main reason for visiting, please call the site ahead of your visit to check if any parts of the site are restricted. We are keen to promote the use of our sites to location managers. If you are interested please go to (Filming Locations) for more information and contacts. English Heritage does not permit drone flying from or over sites in our care, except by contractors or partners undertaking flights for a specific purpose, who satisfy stringent CAA criteria, have the correct insurances and permissions, and are operating under controlled conditions.
