Access information for the site is listed below. For more information, or if you have particular access needs, please contact us before you visit. Please note that some facilities may require booking in advance.

You can book online until 8.45am on the day of your visit.

You can still buy a ticket when you arrive, but you won’t get the discount.

Your booking is only for entry to the site or event, and you may need to pay for parking.

Tickets are valid all day, so you can arrive at any time and stay for as long as you like within our opening hours.

Tickets are free for members. You can still book online if you’d like – just remember to bring your English Heritage membership card.

You can join as a member online or during your visit.

Dog Bowl and Toileting
A dog bowl can be found outside the entrance to the shop, and a dog bin is located on the castle green. Dog waste bags are supplied on request.
Wheelchair Access
There is disabled access to the outer bailey, exhibition and shop (a side gate to the shop allows for wheelchair, mobility scooter or double buggy pushchair).
Disabled Parking
Visitors in a wheelchair can be given access to the staff car park (by prior arrangement only, please phone at least half an hour in advance of your visit). Please ask for directions when you call the site.

There are six steps leading up to the shop. The main staircase to the keep has 64 steps (there are a number of resting places on the way up and handrails are provided).
