Muchelney Abbey was once a wealthy and important monastery. Visit, and you can see the two-storey abbots’ lodgings: a complete early Tudor mansion in miniature. Explore a magnificent chamber with an ornate fireplace, a famous carved settle seat and stained glass, two rooms with wall paintings imitating cloth hangings, a pair of kitchens with fine timber roofs and parts of the richly decorated cloister walk.
Don’t miss the thatched two-storey monks’ lavatory, which is unique in Britain.
Displays trace Muchelney abbey’s history and highlight site finds, including decorated tiles and stonework. There’s also a family trail.
