Facilities at Muchelney Abbey

  • Parking

    V
The free on-site car park has space for approximately 40 cars, with capacity for a further 40 if required. The car park is located roughly 70 meters from the site entrance. Off-site parking is available at Muchelney Abbey which is situated within a small rural community. There is no other parking available. There is space for around 10 minibuses (12 seaters). Full-sized coaches are unable to enter the site, although passengers can be dropped off at the car park entrance. Tour parties must book in advance, although the occasional impromptu minibus stop can be accommodated.

  • Gardens

    V

The grounds, which measure approximately 100 metres by 100 metres, contain the low level ruins of the abbey. There are no pathways other than the initial access to the site, and visitors are encouraged to walk informally amongst the ruins.

Notable walks include the 'Parrett Trail', a marked route along the nearby River Parrett. The site is also close to designated National Cycle Route 339.

Wildlife is plentiful in rural Somerset. The re-introduction of Cranes to the Somerset Levels is a recent project of note, and Red Kites can also be spotted on occasion.
