"We’re off to times from long ago – the Stone Age calls, so off we go.” Introduce your pupils to the Neolithic period with our Stonehenge story. As pupils listen to the story of how it was built, they will join in with rhymes and actions and locate the animals, food and night sky from the tale on our tactile mat. By getting hands-on with story-related objects they will discover more about the daily lives of prehistoric people.

Step into our authentic Kusuma Neolithic Hall and into the perfect setting for your pupils to explore Stone Age treasures and compare them to everyday items from modern day Stonehenge. Let this inspirational setting bring your pupils closer to the Neolithic people who built and lived at Stonehenge to give them a better understanding about the natural materials they used to create objects and how they differ to human-made items. Through hands-on activities learn about objects, their properties and materials, before getting creative with natural materials.

Stonehenge has always filled us with wonder: how is it linked to the Sun, moon and stars? Is it a sundial, or astronomical clock? Discover its significance through a virtual tour of the night sky, have a go at creating a human solar system and get hands-on with objects and samples. In this unique setting, your class will understand why Stonehenge's solar alignments were so important to the Neolithic people.

Stones and Bones - Stonehenge in its Landscape

This session was developed in partnership with the National Trust. Explore Stonehenge and its place within the wider landscape. On an interactive tour, learn about the different stones and building techniques used, and how the monument relates to the solstice alignment. Using role-play, recreate a Bronze Age burial in the landscape, discussing replica objects based on artefacts found in the area and what they can tell us about the people buried here. Maximum class size of 30 per session.

Neolithic Life at Stonehenge

Tailored to the National Curriculum, this popular workshop will take your class back to the Neolithic period as they learn how to survive, strive and thrive at Stonehenge! They’ll complete interactive challenges, including model building and rope making; get hands-on with our replica Neolithic objects, and even prepare for Solstice in our reconstructed Neolithic houses. Maximum class size of 30 per session.

Myths and Legends

Discover a world of myths and legends at the stone circle. This two hour, hands-on session includes a trip to the Stones and a tour led by one of our knowledgeable volunteers. Afterwards, the group will return to our dedicated education room to create their own myths using LEGO® StoryStarter kits. At the end of the session, the groups will be asked to share what they have built and re-tell their stories to the class.

Do your students have what it takes to build Stonehenge? They'll find out during a series of challenges, inspired by the creators of this iconic stone circle, that will require science, maths and design technology skills to succeed. Through hands-on experiments and by considering the resources, tools and engineering required to build the monument, they’ll understand the skill and ingenuity of the Neolithic people and what it took to create Stonehenge.

Directly linking to the GCSE Chemistry wastewater treatment topic, students will investigate how we use modern technology to overcome environmental challenges at Stonehenge in this hands-on workshop. They'll explore how our membrane bioreactor screens, filters and harnesses bacteria to clean wastewater, then use our free, self-led resource to explore the monument and consider sustainability at this iconic site.

Facilities
- STONEHENGE: The stone circle, exhibition and visitor centre are all open for you to enjoy.
- SHUTTLE BUS: The shuttle bus is available for school groups to use.
- PARKING: Free coach parking is available. A maximum parking of 2 hours is allowed on site.
- EDUCATION ROOM: Our education room is not available at this time. Please check this page for future updates.
- TOILETS: There are currently limited toilets available due to site maintenance work so please allow plenty of time for your group to use the facilities. Accessible toilets are available. Additional hand sanitising stations will be available across the site.
- LUNCH: Unfortunately there is no indoor lunch space. A takeaway catering offer will be provided in our outdoor seating area or you are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy near the stones.
- SHOP: As this space can get busy during peak times, we ask that you only bring in groups of 10 max at any one time.
