Housesteads Museum and Roman Collection

The museum at Housesteads explores the story of the fort through dramatic film footage of the stunning World Heritage Site and CGI recreations of the original Roman Buildings.  See what it was really like to live on life on the edge of the Roman Empire. Younger visitors can meet 'Felix', a character of the fort who will guide them around the museum.

The Roman Collection

A fascinating collection of Roman finds are on display in the museum. We have restored, conserved and redisplayed Roman altars and dedication stones, some returned to the fort for the first time in hundreds of years.
