Explore the stunning scenery and fascinating history of the north east of England with this itinerary tailor-made for groups.

Tynemouth Priory

DAY ONE - TYNEMOUTH AND BELSAY

Morning: Make a stop at Tynemouth Priory and Castle to discover the coastal fortress and holy place. Visit the restored gun battery and the underground chambers and visit the exhibition that traces the history of the castle.

Lunch: Grab lunch at Belsay Hall tearoom. Pre-booking is essential.

Afternoon: Head to Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens. Allow three hours to explore its medieval castle, Jacobean mansion ruin and over 20 spectacular acres of Grade 1-listed gardens.

Driving: Tynemouth Priory to Belsay Hall is a 42 minute drive.

Warkworth Castle

DAY TWO - AYDON, BRINKBURN & WARKWORTH

Morning: In the morning travel to Aydon Castle. Your group can explore the beautiful manor house with medieval fortifications, fortified against Scots raiders and used as a farmhouse until 1966.

Lunch: Stop off in Newcastle for lunch.

Afternoon: Journey to Brinkburn Priory, home to the beautiful 12th-century priory church. Explore the empty Manor House and view the atmosphere surroundings set by a bend in the River Coquet.

Round the day off with a trip to Warkworth Castle. Towering above the Coquet, the castle is among the biggest and most complete medieval castles in Northern England. Wander the chambers and a maze of passage ways and staircases.

Driving: Aydon Castle to Brickburn Priory is a 46 minute drive and a further 29 minutes to Warkworth Castle.

Tynemouth Priory

DAY THREE - ETAL & BERWICK

Morning: For the last day of your journey, visit Etal Castle. Set in a charming village, the small 14th-century castle controlled an important river crossing on the Scottish border. Learn about King James IV of Scotland who captured the castle just before his defeat in the Battle of Flodden (1513) in the award-winning exhibition.

Lunch: Stop for lunch near Berwick-upon-Tweed Harbour and enjoy the beautiful views of the coast.

Afternoon: Spend the afternoon exploring the fortress border town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Visit the Georgian 'Redcoat' barracks and guard house at the Barracks and Main Guard and see the town's impressive defences at Berwick's Castle and Ramparts.

Driving: The journey from Etal Castle to Berwick-upon-Tweed Barracks will take roughly 21 minutes.
